Veteran journalist M Obaidul Haque died due to old-age complications at a private hospital in Chittagong city early yesterday. He was 87.

He left behind five sons and two daughters to mourn his death.

He was a former president of Chittagong Union of Journalists (CUJ) and Chittagong Press Club and started his career as a reporter in 1950s. He went to retirement as the chief reporter of Dainik Azadi.

Four namaz-e-janazas were held respectively at Journalists' Cooperative Housing Society, in front of Chittagong Press Club, at Jamiatul Falah Mosque and in his village Purba Dhaloi of Hathazari upazila in Chittagong.

He was buried in his family graveyard in the village.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina mourned his death, reports BSS.
