4 AC mechanics injured in explosion during repair work at BUP
Four persons suffered burn injuries in an air-conditioner explosion during repair work at Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP) in Dhaka's Mirpur today.
The incident occurred around 12:00pm at the academic building on the campus, Omar Faruk, a staff of the university, said.
The injured were identified as Al Mamun, 31; Sujon Mia, 31; Russell Ahmed, 45; and Selim Hossain, 30. All are AC mechanics.
They are currently receiving treatment at the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery.
According to the victims, they were repairing an air-conditioning unit near a kitchen area when the explosion happened. The compressor of the AC unit had already been removed, and the electricity supply was reportedly disconnected at the time.
“Suddenly, there was a loud explosion, and all four of us suffered burns to our hands, legs, and faces,” one of the injured said.
All four patients were given treatment at the emergency department and their injuries are not critical, said resident surgeon Dr Shawon Bin Rahman, adding the victims are under observation.
The cause of the explosion could not be immediately determined.
