Child killed in hit-and-run on way to Jummah prayers in Gazipur

A child was killed in Sreepur, Gazipur, after being run over by a covered van while crossing the road on his way to Jummah prayers today.

The incident occurred today around 1:00pm in the Gargoria Masterbari area on the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway.

The deceased, Jihad, 8, was a student at a local madrasa.

According to police and family sources, Jihad left home around noon with his relatives to attend Jummah prayers at Gilarchala Central Jaame Mosque. While crossing the Dhaka-bound lane in front of Filco Sports Company on the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway, a speeding unidentified covered van hit him and fled the scene, killing him on the spot.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Mawa Highway Police Station, Md Kamruzzaman, said, "We are trying to identify the vehicle. The body will be handed over to the family after completing legal procedures. A case is under process in this regard."
