Teen motorcyclist killed after being hit by e-rickshaw in Dakshinkhan

Battery-run rickshaw strikes motorcycle from behind, causing fatal head injuries

A teenager was killed as a battery-run rickshaw hit his motorcycle in Dhaka’s Dakshinkhan area today.

The accident occurred at around 10:30am.

The deceased was identified as Shishir, 17, of Lakshmipur Sadar upazila. His family currently lives in a rented house in Tentultola area of Mollartek in Dakshinkhan.

Following the accident, Shishir was taken to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) in a critical condition, where doctors declared him dead around 5:00pm, said Inspector Mohammad Faruk, in-charge of the DMCH Police Outpost.

He said the body has been kept at the morgue for autopsy. Dakshinkhan Police Station is investigating the incident.

Shishir’s maternal uncle Golam Kibria, who took him to the hospital, said Shishir went out on a friend’s motorcycle around 10:30am from Dhobadia area of Mollartek. While he was riding, a speeding battery-run rickshaw hit the motorcycle from behind, causing him to fall and suffer serious injuries to his head and body.

Locals rescued him and took him to a nearby hospital. He was later shifted to DMCH, where doctors declared him dead.
