Two killed in separate accidents in Gazipur
Two people were killed in separate accidents, including a train accident, in Tongi and Kapasia of Gazipur.
In the first incident, an unidentified man, aged around 30, was killed after being run over by a train in the Boubazar area of Tongi, along the Dhaka–Tongi railway route. The accident occurred at approximately 6:00am today, and police recovered the body around 10:00am.
Locals said the victim was struck by a Dhaka-bound train while crossing or walking along the tracks. Rahima Khatun, in-charge of Tongi Railway Police Outpost, said efforts are underway to identify the deceased. “Necessary legal procedures, including a post-mortem examination, are being carried out,” she added.
In another incident, a microbus driver, Kamrul Hasan, 30, was killed in a road accident at the Tilshunia Jame Mosque intersection area of Kapasia upazila. The crash occurred when the driver lost control of the vehicle and collided with a tree on the roadside. The driver died on the spot.
The deceased was a resident of Boyra village in Mymensingh Sadar and worked at the Gazipur Agricultural Research Institute. Police and local sources said the accident took place yesterday evening while the microbus was traveling from Gazipur to Raniganj via Kapasia.
A child was critically injured in the accident, while two to three other passengers from the same family also sustained injuries. Locals rescued them and sent them to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital for treatment.
Sub-Inspector Milon Mia of Kapasia Police Station confirmed the casualties. “Legal procedures are ongoing. The victim’s family has requested the release of the body without a post-mortem examination,” he added.
