JU suspends 8 students over ragging allegations

Jahangirnagar University (JU) authorities have suspended eight students of the Physics Department over allegations of ragging first-year students.

The decision was announced in an office order signed by acting registrar Dr ABM Azizur Rahman today.

According to the order, the incident took place between 10:00pm yesterday and 3:00am this morning near the western side of Sher-e-Bangla AK Fazlul Huq Hall.

The order said several students of the Physics Department's 54th batch (2024-25 academic session) allegedly ragged freshers of the 55th batch (2025-26).

The accused allegedly used abusive language and forced the newcomers to hold their ears and perform sit-ups, constituting ragging under the university's regulations.

The students were suspended under Section 4(1)(kha) of the Jahangirnagar University Students' Discipline Ordinance, 2018, pending further proceedings.

The suspended students are: Md Fazle Hasan Fahad, Md Al-Amin Hossain, Md Jahid Hasan, Md Faisal Ahmed, Md Mahmudul Hasan Khan Akib, Md Mahmudul Amin Siam, Md Mostafizur Rahman, and Syed Sakib Ahmed Ratul.
