Mizanur Rahman Sinha, a former state minister for health, passed away in Singapore early yesterday. He was 82.

Sinha, who had long been undergoing treatment at Mount Elizabeth Novena Hospital in Singapore, breathed his last at around 2:47am, confirmed his daughter Tasnim Sinha on social media, reports BSS.

A former treasurer of the BNP central committee, Sinha contested the seventh general election in 1996 and the eighth in 2001 from Munshiganj-2 as a party candidate and was elected to parliament.

Most recently, he was appointed convener of the district BNP committee.

The BNP had initially nominated him for the 13th parliamentary election. However, the party later changed the final nomination following his hospitalisation.

Apart from politics, Sinha also contributed to local social development and charitable activities.

Mizanur Rahman Sinha was the managing director of ACME Laboratories Ltd.

He began his career at Habib Bank Ltd in 1964, serving in various key roles before joining ACME in 1976 to fulfil the vision of his father, late Hamidur Rahman Sinha, founder of the company.

In 1981, he became the managing director. His 49 years of experience, dedication, and visionary leadership established ACME as one of the leading pharmaceutical companies in Bangladesh.

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and other BNP leaders have expressed deep shock and sorrow at the death of Mizanur Rahman Sinha.

In a condolence message, the premier said Sinha’s contributions to the country’s political and health sectors would always be remembered.

He prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family.

The PM’s Press Secretary AAM Saleh Shibly shared the message with BSS.

The parliament secretariat said in a release that the namaz-e-janaza of Mizanur Rahman Sinha will be held at the South Plaza of Jatiya Sangsad at 11:00am today.

His funeral will be held on Monday at his ancestral village, Dohuri, in Lohajang upazila of Munshiganj, followed by burial in the family graveyard.
