Govt forms committee to reform procurement processes

Tasked with simplifying and ensuring transparency in government purchases

The government has formed a nine-member committee to make government procurement processes simpler, more transparent and meaningful, according to a notification issued by the Cabinet Division today.

The committee, chaired by Law Minister Md Asaduzzaman, will make recommendations aimed at reforming overall procurement activities and provide specific proposals for the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs and the Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase. No deadline has been set for the submission of its report.

Members of the panel include the energy minister, commerce minister, the adviser to the Ministry of Public Administration, state minister for shipping and bridges, and the state minister for local government.

The cabinet secretary, finance secretary, and the chief executive officer of the Bangladesh Public Procurement Authority are also part of the committee.

According to its terms of reference, the committee will determine the working procedures of the two cabinet committees, review and recommend reforms to relevant sections of the Public Procurement Act (PPA)-2006 and Public Procurement Rules (PPR)-2025, and carry out any other duties assigned by them.
