BNP’s Badsha, Rubel notified as MPs in Bogura-6, Sherpur-3
The Election Commission (EC) has published a gazette notification declaring two BNP candidates elected from the Bogura-6 by-election and Sherpur-3 constituency in the 13th National Parliament.
The elections for the two constituencies were held on April 9.
BNP candidate Rezaul Karim Badsha clinched victory in the Bogura-6 by-polls, while Mahmudul Haque Rubel, also a BNP candidate, won the Sherpur-3 election.
The gazette was published on April 10 and signed by EC Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed. It includes details of the two elected lawmakers, such as their names, parents’ names, and addresses.
The Bogura-6 by-poll saw a 42.57 percent turnout, while the Sherpur-3 election recorded a 52.19 percent turnout, according to returning officers.
The next step is the swearing-in ceremony of the two newly elected members of parliament.
The 13th National Parliamentary Election took place on February 12 in 299 out of 300 constituencies. With these two victories, the number of BNP lawmakers in parliament has risen to 210.
Prime Minister and BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman won Dhaka-17 and Bogura-6 constituencies, and later vacated Bogura-6, prompting the commission to hold a by-poll in the seat.
The Sherpur-3 election was cancelled eight days before the national polls following the death of a Jamaat candidate.
BNP also won the Chattogram-2 and Chattogram-4 seats, but the gazette notifications are yet to be published, as the High Court issued directives to withhold the results following writ petitions.
