EC gazettes BNP’s Sarowar Alamgir as Chattogram-2 MP
The Election Commission today published a gazette declaring BNP candidate Sarowar Alamgir as the elected member of parliament from Chattogram-2, following a High Court verdict.
The gazette, signed by EC Deputy Secretary Mohammad Manir Hossain, confirmed Alamgir’s name, address, and constituency details as the official winner.
Alamgir had secured victory in the 13th national election held on February 12 with a margin of nearly 70,000 votes. However, the announcement was delayed due to legal issues surrounding his candidacy.
Earlier in the day, the High Court declared the EC’s rejection of Alamgir’s nomination paper illegal, clearing the way for him to take oath as a lawmaker.
EC officials said a letter is now being prepared for the parliament secretariat to proceed with the next steps.
