EC publishes voter list for women’s reserved seat election
Election Commission (EC) has published the voter list for the upcoming women’s reserved seat election for the 13th National Parliament, scheduled for May 12.
An EC letter signed by Deputy Secretary Mohammad Monir Hossain confirmed the names of 296 parliament members eligible to vote.
Earlier in the day, the EC announced the polling schedule, setting April 8 as the date for formal procedures.
Under the Jatiya Sangsad (Reserved Seats for Women) Election Act, 2004, the election must be completed within 90 days of publishing the national election results. The 13th national parliamentary election and referendum were held on February 12, with results published the next day.
Of the 50 parties contesting, only nine won seats, while 41 -- including the Jatiya Party -- failed to secure representation.
Reserved seats are allocated proportionally based on general seats won. According to EC Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed, BNP and its allies will receive 36 seats, Jamaat‑e‑Islami and the National Citizen Party will get 13 seats, and independent allies will secure one seat.
