The Street Fighter movie trailer is here, and its packed with game references
The first full-length trailer for Paramount and Legendary's live-action Street Fighter adaptation has premiered at CinemaCon, presenting a deliberately campy, nostalgia-heavy take on the fighting game franchise set against an early-1990s backdrop.
Directed by Kitao Sakurai and scheduled for release on 16 October 2026, the film centres on Ken Masters, Chun-Li, and Ryu, whose paths converge at the World Warrior Tournament—a global competition between elite fighters. The film is set in 1993, the period when Street Fighter II was at the height of its cultural influence.
The cast draws from multiple eras of the franchise. Ryu is played by Andrew Koji, Ken Masters by Noah Centineo, and Chun-Li by Callina Liang. Characters including Akuma, Dhalsim, Cammy, and Vega are also featured, pulled from the first two mainline games and the Street Fighter Alpha series.
The trailer includes several direct references to the games, among them a scene of Ken destroying a car—a callback to the bonus stages of Street Fighter II—along with footage of Ryu charging a Hadoken fireball. The footage is set to What's Up? by 4 Non Blondes, reinforcing the production's knowingly campy tone.
The film also features a conspiracy narrative centred on the tournament itself. David Dastmalchian plays M. Bison, and the cast includes wrestlers Cody Rhodes and Roman Reigns, as well as Eric Andre and Orville Peck.
The film is the first product of Paramount's three-year distribution deal with Legendary Pictures.
