Most filings for FY26, which is around 42.97 lakh, were made online, while 3.04 lakh were paper-based

The NBR said the deadline was extended in the public interest

Previously, these requirements were mandatory for as many as 43 services. 

Tax compliance is a vital pillar of a country’s economic stability. But in Bangladesh, despite various government efforts to widen the tax net, an alarming 65 percent of eligible taxpayers did not bother filing their returns within the deadline, which was extended thrice this year.

Nearly five lakh additional establishments are expected to come under the tax net as the government is going to make proof of submission of return (PSR) mandatory for hotels, restaurants, clinics, and diagnostic centres.

Those who sought time extension will only get the opportunity

The National Board of Revenue today said it will accept tax returns from individual taxpayers on the first day of January 2023.
