Hartal across the country

The Awami League-led 14-party combine and the Jatiya Party (Ershad) enforced a dawn-to-dusk hartal across the country yesterday as part of their joint movement to resist any one-sided elections. 1) Police intercept a procession of Jubo League at Russell Square in the city during the hartal. 2) Pickets try to stop a vehicle carrying members of the armed forces near Shyamoli Cinema in the city. 3) Pickets hurl pieces of bricks at the police at Adabar. 4) Members of Mahila Jubo League shout slogans during a demonstration at Dhanmondi. 5) Pickets damage the windscreen of an autorickshaw of The Daily Star at Mirpur. 6) 14-party activists burn tyres at Muradpur in Chittagong. 7) Tyres are also burned on different roads in Barisal. 8) 14-party combine takes out a procession in Rajshahi during hartal.
