BANGABANDHU WILL UNDERGO SURGERY TOMORROW

Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman will be operated upon to remove a gallbladder stone tomorrow at London Clinic. The prime minister is keeping perfect health today. Sir Edward Muir, the Queen's surgeon, will perform the operation. He will be assisted by Sir Francis Avery Jones and Bangabandhu's personal physician Dr Nurul Islam.

AR MALLICK CALLS ON INDIRA GANDHI

A personal letter from Bangabandhu to Indira Gandhi is handed over to the Indian prime minister today by Bangladesh High Commissioner to India Dr AR Mallick. He also conveys to Indira a verbal message from the Bangladesh prime minister. Contents of the letter or the message are not disclosed.

36,334 BANGALEES REMOVED FROM SERVICE BY PAK GOVT

A total of 36,334 Bangalees on the payroll of the Central Government of Pakistan have been removed from their posts. Their services were dispensed with as they opted for Bangladesh. This figure does not include the personnel of the defence service. 

RANGPUR, DINAJPUR IN THE GRIP OF FLOOD

Rangpur is in the grip of flood. A sharp rise in the water levels of the River Teesta and Brahmaputra was recorded since yesterday. Standing crops such as jute and Aman paddy in the char and low-lying areas on the banks of the Teesta and Brahmaputra have gone under flood water.

Heavy rains coupled with flash floods from Siliguri have seriously affected Tetulia and Panchagarh thana of Dinajpur. According to the Deputy Commissioner of Dinajpur a large number of mud houses have collapsed and most of the 30,000 affected people are taking shelter on elevated land.
