Bangla must be used in all spheres

TRADE AGREEMENT WITH INDIA WILL BE BENEFICIAL FOR BOTH: BANGABANDHU

In an interview with Pran Chopra, former editor of Statesman (India), Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman yesterday said the recently concluded trade agreement between Bangladesh and India would be beneficial for both countries. He justified Bangladesh's position to export jute to India by saying that in return Bangladesh would get the much-needed coal. The prime minister expressed his gratitude to the Indian government and people for their relentless support to the reconstruction effort of Bangladesh.

BANGABANDHU'S MESSAGE TO PRIMARY TEACHERS

In a message sent to the first national conference of primary teachers, Bangabandhu says that teachers, particularly primary school teachers, played a significant role in the liberation struggle of Bangladesh. Teachers are not only the backbone of the country but also the torch bearers of the nation, adds the prime minister.

PRESIDENT'S APPEAL TO THE NATION

President Justice Abu Sayeed Chowdhury today appeals to the nation to use Bangla in all spheres of life. He also calls upon countrymen to work for eradicating illiteracy from the country. "We have to transform the existing education system into a people-oriented system", add the president.

CABINET MEETS

The Cabinet today meets for four hours.  The cabinet meeting presided over by Bangabandhu is reported to have discussed the overall situation of the country including the food and economic condition.

INDIA WILL RESPECT BANGLADESH'S VIEW ON POWS

Indira Gandhi today says that India will always respect Bangladesh's view on the prisoners of war. In an interview with American Broadcasting Corporation, the Indian prime minister opines, "The situation has changed in Pakistan. If they want peace it can be established now."

INDIAN FOOD AID CONTINUES

India has supplied more than 50,000 tonnes of rice and wheat to Bangladesh between December, 1971 and April, 1972. They will provide four lakh tonnes of food aid in May.

RELEASE STRANDED BANGALEES

National Women's Federation and Bangalee Rescue Committee today jointly organise a procession at Paltan Maidan demanding immediate release of Bangalees stranded in Pakistan. They urge the Bangladesh government, the UN and other international bodies to create pressure on the Pakistani authority in this regard.
