Seeking to retain power, ruling Congress established early lead yesterday in quest for majority in the 60-member Arunachal Pradesh Assembly. It has won four seats and is leading in seven constituencies as counting of votes began across the state.

Congress' main challenger BJP managed to win just one and is leading in two constituencies.

Congress, which won three seats unopposed, added one more to its kitty by bagging Liromba seat, where its candidate and former Jarabom

Gamlin defeated former party colleague and state Power Minister Lijum Ronya (independent), ending the latter's winning streaks in several elections in the past.

The Congress is also leading in at least five other constituencies including Liromba, Namsang and Talia.

In Kalaktang, rebel Congressman RK Chrime is ahead of the party's official nominee DK Thongdok.
