Barisal JCD protests selection of non-student, 'criminal' as leader

Party sources said majority of JCD leaders here have decided to seek BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Tarek Rahman's intervention for a change.

Talking to this correspondent, many of the leaders and activists expressed their disappointment that a "terrorist and non-student" has been appointed a central leader of the ruling party's student front. This will destroy the image of the party and the government, they said.

They claimed that Sentu is accused in at least 13 cases for murder, extortion, toll collection and possession of illegal arms. He left Barisal city as he was wanted by RAB in October last year, they claimed.

Sentu passed SSC in second division in 1989, HSC in third division in 1991, BA (pass) in third division in 1994.

Senior and dedicated party men had opposed when Sentu was selected Barisal city JCD president and VP of B M College Students Union. He secured the posts by lobbying, they said.

Sentu however denied all allegations and said the cases against him were lodged during Awami League rule with political motives. All the cases have been settled, he added.
