Faridpur dist AL council today

The district Awami League (AL) council will be held here today after an interval of 13 years.

The council is being held following party chief Sheikh Hasina's intervention. The party leaders and workers are now busy in visiting the council members' houses in nine upazilas.

Three candidates will vie for the post of president. They are former member of parliament (MP) Imam Uddin Ahmed, ex-general secretary(GS) S M Nurunnabi and joint convener Bipul Ghose.

The candidates who are vying for the post of secretary are district Krishok League secretary Syed Masud Hossain and ex-Faridpur Pourashava chairman Hasibur Hasan Lablu.

The last Faridpur Zila Awami League committee was formed in 1992. It was headed by advocate Mosharraf Hossain as president and Bipul Ghose as its general secretary.

Afterwards, the party leaders were divided over the issue of selection of Bipul Ghose.
