One unit of Ashuganj plant stops power generation

One unit of Ashuganj power station stopped electricity generation at about 10 am yesterday.

The 150 MW capacity Unit-4 stopped functioning due to leakage in the condensate tube, sources at the plant said.

Local engineer are trying to repair it, they said in the afternoon.

They said the unit operated for over 1,42,364 hours till now. Its generation came don to 85 MW due to lack of major overhaul for long.

During a visit to the plant, its managing Director Md Shahidur Rahman Khan said the repair work will be completed by tomorrow (May 23).

He also said Unit-4 and Unit-5 will undergo major overhaul, starting from December 22 at the cost of Tk 500 crore.

Two foreign companies, one from Japan and the other from Germany will do the work, he added.
