A young Australian woman was Friday jailed for 20 years for smuggling drugs into Indonesia, prompting her country's prime minister to appeal for calm among her outraged supporters at home.

Judge Linton Sirait said 27-year-old Schapelle Corby was guilty of carrying 4.1 kilograms (nine pounds) of marijuana onto the resort island of Bali last October despite her claims it had been placed in her surfboard bag by a smuggling ring.
