An alleged cadre of outlawed Gono Mukti Fouz (GMF) was killed in a 'shootout' with police at Bhabanipur village in Pabna Sadar upazila early yesterday.

Sadar thana police sources said they went to the village at about 4 am on an information that GMF and another outlawed party, BCP (Bipplobi Communist Party), were preparing for a gunfight for supremacy in the area.

Sensing police presence, GMF men opened fire on police, while BCP activists fled the area, police said.

After a gunfight, police found the body of Shamim Hossain alias Dat Samim, 36. His accomplices fled away.

Police recovered a shutter gun and some bullets from the spot.

The duty officer at the Sadar police station said Samim was accused in 'several' cases.
