Agitation in front of RU VC office

Earlier on Saturday, the High Court (HC) upheld an order of a Rajshahi court which had imposed injunction on appointment of the 546 third and fourth class employees.

The 546 employees tried to take out a procession on the campus but could not due to police obstruction.

They met RU Vice-chancellor Prof Altab Hossain and Pro VC Prof Mamnunul Keramat separately and urged them to move the higher court against the order.

When contacted RU Pro VC Prof Mamnunul Keramat said, "We respect the court order. We will appeal to the Supreme Court".

Asked about confirmation of jobs of the 546 employees, he said, "We will publish advertisement for appointment against vacant post soon".

Rafiqul Islam, a leader of the 546 employees told a group of news man that the RU VC and the Pro VC assured them that they will appeal to the Supreme Court.

A large number of police men were deployed on the campus to avert any untoward incident.

The RU authorities on April 15 last year appointed 546 third and fourth class employees, allegedly without following due procedure of law.

Advocate Abu Aslam, a member of Rajshhai Bar Association, filed a civil case as Public Interest Litigation (PIL) with an Assistant Judge's court in Rajshahi, seeking injunction on their appointment and payment of salaries.

The Judge passed an injunction on June 23 last year.

The university authorities filed an appeal against the order with the Additional Judge's court, Rajshahi. The court vacated the injunction order on July 14 last year.

Abu Aslam then filed civil revision case with the High Court.
