A diverse diet is the key to good nutrition. However, in South Asia, diets have been traditionally cereal-heavy; in Bangladesh, about 70 percent of daily energy intake per person comes from cereals.

Regardless of the remarkable progress that some industries across South Asia have achieved, agriculture still remains the primary source of employment and income for a large segment of people in the region.
