IUB Introduces Rainwater Harvesting System

The inauguration of rainwater harvesting system at Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) took place on February 5, 2014. The Department of Environmental Science at IUB, in association with Water Aid Bangladesh, installed Rainwater Harvesting System (RWHS) at IUB's permanent campus at Bashundhara, Dhaka to save ground water and energy. Rashed Chowdhury, Chairman, Board of trustees, IUB inaugurated the ceremony. Among others, Professor M. Omar Rahman, Vice Chancellor of IUB; and Professor Dr. M. Ali Hossain, Dean, School of Environmental Science and Management, were present at the event.
Rashed Chowdhury, in his speech, mentioned that the RWSH model at IUB is meant for not only saving money, but also disseminating the technology throughout Bangladesh since water resources are getting scarce day by day. Professor M. Ali Hossain delivered a speech focusing on the importance and technical aspects of this Rainwater Harvesting System.

IBAIS University in the final of Parliamentary Election Debate Competition

IBAIS University qualified in the final of mock Parliamentary Election Debate Competition organised by Debate for Democracy. A total of 16 universities participated in the competition. IBAIS University Debate Club defeated Jahangirnagar University Debate Team in the semi final to secure a place in the final. The topic of the semi final was “Whether people responded to the call of boycotting the 10th parliamentary election or not.”  
Former Chief Election Commissioner, Dr. A.T.M. Shamsul Huda was the chief guest, while Hasan Ahmed Chowdhury Kiron, Chairman, Debate for Democracy, chaired the event that took place on February 5, 2014. The debaters of IBAIS University were Md. Reazul Islam, Anita Islam, Masud Sikder, M.M. Fahim, Abu Shaikh and Sahana Akter. Badrudozza Talukdar, faculty of the university, is the advisor of the debate club. The jury of the competition was formed by Professor Robayet Ferdous, Dr. Suchita Sharmin and A.H.M. Solaiman.

Orientation of PSDP at BRAC University

BRAC University Career Service Office (CSO) organised the orientation session for Professional Skill and Development Programme (PSDP) Spring-2014 on January 30, 2014 at BRACU campus. The programme is designed to prepare the graduating class to pursue post-graduate employment and academic opportunities. It provides extensive information on postgraduate academic opportunities and job market conditions and prospects. The programme also seeks to equip all graduating students with the necessary skills for job search, individual portfolio development and interview preparation. In his speech, Kumar Murshid, Joint Registrar and Director of CSO, congratulated the students for reaching their final year and attending the PSDP. Also present at the event, Lady Sarwat Abed, Director of BIL, said, “After spending productive years in BRACU, the students just require a little bit of polishing through PSDP in order to excel in their professional world.” Professor Fuad Hassan Mallick, Pro Vice Chancellor of BRACU, was also present at the event.

Orientation Programme at NSU Public Health Department

Orientation ceremony of Spring-2014 Semester for the newly enrolled MPH & EMPH students of North South University (NSU) took place on February 7, 2014 at NSU seminar hall. Around 200 students of MPH & EMPH programme from the Department of Public Health were present at the ceremony. Dr. Amin U. Sarkar, Vice Chancellor of NSU, was present as chief guest, while Dr. G.U. Ahsan, Chairman of Public Health Department, chaired the orientation ceremony. Mohammad Abdul Qayyum, Additional Secretary to the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief; Major General (Retd.) Dr. A.S.M. Motiur Rahman; and Dr. A.N.M. Meshquat Uddin, Pro Vice Chancellor of the university, also addressed the newly enrolled students.
