Falling every year in the beginning of spring, the Cultural Show kicked off with Bangla songs and dance. As the month of Falgun brings new leaves and budding flowers in the trees, the day began with the budding talents in Playgroup to Grade 5, singing Bangla nursery rhymes, reciting poetry, performing classical dance and Rabindra Sangeet. The morning session ended with a showcase of different types of dances to embrace diversity.
The Art Exhibition was launched at mid-day showcasing the submissions of the Silver Jubilee Art Competition with the theme “My School, My World”, where the finalists received certificates from the Head of Education, Ms. Nicola Sum. The Art Exhibition also showcased the artworks of the talented faculty and staff of the school. The second half of the Cultural Show highlighted the many talents from the students of Grades 6-12, ranging from classical dance, modern dance, a Tagore remix and live band performance from the winners of the Battle of the Bands competition.
The excitement from the parents who came in large numbers to encourage the wonderful performances was multiplied with the fanfare of celebrating AKSD's 25th anniversary. The school was established in 1988 with 25 students, 7 teachers and 1 Principal. Today the student body has grown to over 1,200 students with 200 teachers and staff. In this time, the Aga Khan School has also been accredited as an IB World School offering the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme in the Primary and Junior Sections and the CIE curriculum in the Senior section. The school is also part of an international network of 240 schools in South Asia, Central Asia and East Africa.
