EU Organises Seminar on Higher Education Opportunities

Eastern University (EU) organised a seminar on “Opportunities of Higher Education and Career in Bangladesh” at the auditorium of Rokeya Ahsan College, Jatrabari, Dhaka on February 16, 2014. A total of 27 teachers and 400 students of the college attended the seminar. Professor Dr. Nazrul Islam, Dean of Faculty of Business Administration, headed the visiting team. Dr. Mahfuzur Rahman, Chairman, Department of CSE; Dr. Shafiullah, MBA Programme Coordinator; Theotonius Gomes, Senior Lecturer, Department of English; and Arifur Rahman accompanied him.
Dr. Nazrul Islam talked about the importance of higher education and the opportunities available in the private universities of Bangladesh. Dr. Mahfuzur Rahman talked about computer science education available in the private universities while Theotonius Gomes talked about the importance of English literature and scope available in the private universities.

Award Ceremony for Architecture Students of BRACU

Department of Architecture, BRAC University arranged “The Noman Award for Excellence in Architecture” on February 20, 2014 to celebrate the best designs from the graduating batch of 2013. Architect Khaled Noman AIA, was the chief guest at the programme whose direct contribution was the key factor behind this event. Noman is a Bangladeshi architect, living and practicing in Chicago, USA and has generously offered the award to recognise brilliance in designs by BRAC University students. The award is named after him and will be given once every year to the students with the best graduating design project. A jury panel of highly experienced professional architects reviewed and selected the winning project from 6 short-listed designs. Professor Fuad H. Mallick, architect Mahmudul Anwar Riyaad and architect Imran Hossain were in the jury panel. This time the award went to Rafid Reasat Hai. Besides, Emil Theodore Halder's design won the jury commendation.

NSU Observes International Mother Language Day

North South University Sangskritik Sangathon arranged a discussion and cultural programme on February 21, 2014 to observe International Mother Language Day. Dr. Amin U. Sarkar, Vice Chancellor of the university, attended the programme as chief guest. Dr. Israfil Shahin, Professor, Dhaka University; Dr. A.N.M. Meshquat Uddin, Pro Vice Chancellor, NSU and Dr. M. Emdadul Haq, club coordinator of NSU, delivered speeches on the occasion. Speakers highlighted that the main objective of Language Movement was to establish the pride of Bengali language without neglecting the others. They also talked about the history of Bangla literature and advised the students to learn how to use their mother tongue properly. Later a cultural session took place which concluded the programme.

Orientation Programme at UIU

United International University (UIU) has been playing a significant role in encouraging a knowledge-based society, speakers said at the orientation programme of Spring 2014 trimester. Newly enrolled students of the School of Business & Economics, and School of Science and Engineering participated in the two-day long programme, held on February 12-13, 2014. UIU Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. M. Rezwan Khan presided over the ceremony. UIU Pro Vice Chancellor, Professor Dr. Chowdhury Mofizur Rahman; Advisor, Professor Dr. Golam Rahman; Dean, School of Business & Economics, Professor Dr. Md. Musa spoke at the programme. Speakers urged the students to be more attentive to their academic studies to face the challenges of a competitive world. Among others, Treasurer of the university, heads of different departments, faculty members and many students were present at the programme.

Annual Picnic of IBAIS University

IBAIS University celebrated its annual picnic 2014 at Partex Demin Complex in Gazipur on February 15, 2014.  Students, faculty members and officers of the university participated in the event. The main attraction of the picnic was a live performance by James. In addition, students performed songs, drama and dance in association with IBAIS Cultural Club. IBAIS Sports Club organised different competitions for the students, teachers, officers and staff. Showkat Aziz Russell, Chairman, Board of Trustees of IBAIS University, hosted the programme, while M. Kawser Hossain Comet, Vice Chairman of BOT, was present as special guest. Professor Dr. Arifur Rahman, Vice Chancellor (Acting); Trustees Md. Tofazzal Hossain Jewel, A.B.M. Saiful Haque Masud, Ahmed Anwarul Aziz, and many others were present at the event.
