DIU DELEGATION MEETS PRESIDENT
A delegation of Daffodil International University (DIU), led by its Board of Trustees' Chairman, M. Sabur Khan, met President Abdul Hamid on February 23 at Bangabhaban. During the meeting, the President underscored the need for ensuring quality education and proper facilities in private universities. During the meeting, the delegation apprised the President of the university's 4th convocation, scheduled to be held on March 6 on its campus at Ashulia. They also informed Abdul Hamid, who is also the chancellor of DIU that the university built its own campus on 40 acres of land in Ashulia with modern facilities. The delegation talked about the quality of education of the university and related issues. They informed the chancellor that DIU has introduced a four-year graduation course on entrepreneurship with a view to increase the number of young entrepreneurs in the country. President Abdul Hamid also appreciated the university's efforts to offer quality education and groom skilled manpower.

World University Awards Professor Anisuzzaman
World University of Bangladesh organised a reception on February 25, 2014 at the National Museum to award gold medal to educationist, freedom fighter and activist of language movement, Emeritus Professor Dr. Anisuzzaman for his receiving of “Padma Bhushan” award. Health and Family Welfare Minister, Mohammed Nasim was present as chief guest, while M Azizur Rahman, Former Chairman of National Museum was present as special guest. Professor Dr. Abdul Mannan Choudhury, Vice Chancellor of the university presided over the reception.
Morsheda Choudhury, Treasurer of the University read out “Reception Address” to Professor Dr. Anisuzzaman and presented a beautiful replica of a lotus flower. Professor Dr. M. Nurul Islam, Pro Vice Chancellor of the university delivered the address of welcome.
GUB Pays Tribute to Bhasha Shoinik
Green University of Bangladesh (GUB) observed International Mother Language Day-2014 with much enthusiasm to accolade the valiant martyrs who sacrificed their lives for their mother tongue. In the early morning of February 21, a cohort of faculty and students rallied and placed floral wreaths at the Central Shaheed Minar. As a part of an elaborate programme, GUB also organised a reception for Language Movement Activists which was followed by a cultural show at the Carnival Hall of Bangabandhu International Conference Centre (BICC) on February 22.
Professor Dr. Md. Golam Samdani Fakir, Vice Chancellor of GUB, presided over the reception programme, while Education Minister, Nurul Islam Nahid, was present as chief guest. Poet Asad Chowdhury; novelist Selina Hossain; chairman of the board of trustees of GUB, Md. Abdullah Al Mamun, were present at the programme as special guests. Language Movement Activists Abdul Matin, Ahmed Rafiq, Justice Kazi Abadul Haque, Justice Kazi Ebadul Haque, Professor Dr. Sharifa Khatun, Manowara Islam and many others were present at the programme. The programme ended with a cultural show featuring singer Abdul Jabbar and Green University students.

English Campaign launched at BRAC University
The launching ceremony of BRAC University's English Campaign took place on February 25 at its Savar campus amidst a motivational and educational environment. The campaign aims at empowering students to compete globally by excelling in English language. A number of distinguished guests, including BRAC University Vice Chancellor, Professor Ainun Nishat, Pro-Vice Chancellor, Professor Fuad Hassan Mallick, and Lady Syeda Sarwat Abed were present at the launching ceremony. A special note on the proper use of Bangla was also extended to hundreds of students to ensure that our traditions are not lost. The day was full of activities, including daylong Spelling Bee competition, recitation and singing, which preceded an hour of fun-filled English games including Charades, Pictionary, and Hangman, designed to advance students' English proficiency.
