Tech Solutions to Socio-Economic Problems (TSSEP) applies digital journalism to solve the socio-economic problems of Bangladesh. It is a workshop organised by the YES Alumni Bangladesh, sponsored by the Bureau of Education and Cultural Affairs (ECA) of the US Department of State, and monitored by the US Embassy Dhaka.
The TSSEP is a joint effort in association with iEARN-BD, Mozilla Webmaker, S.P.E.E.D Youth, Microsoft Bangladesh, Radio Koler Gan, ABC Radio, Diamondback Productions and Souktel. SHOUT is the media partner. The workshop will be a day-long programme during which time students from ten schools will be taught how to bring attention to socio-economic problems using citizen journalism and social media.
Within four days of conclusion of the workshop, the participants (in teams) will make video presentations on a specified problem, utilising their knowledge, and release them on social networking sites. The team with the best presentation will be selected by the number of likes, shares and a panel of judges. They will be given a trophy on the certification day which will be at the American Center, Dhaka on March 27, 2014.
The project is organised by Gulshan Jubaed Prince, the Co Founder of Smallfoot, and logistics are managed by Aranya Biswas, US Exchange Alumni.

CIMA Global Business Challenge: A step to groom business leaders

CIMA (Chartered Institute of Management Accountants) is the world's largest professional body of management accountants. Most accounting qualifications train people for private practice, working on external audit, corporate laws and practices, and tax issues but CIMA focuses on career in business.
CIMA's Global Business Challenge is an international competition for undergraduates around the world. This competition has been designed to bring out the best business leaders of tomorrow. The competition is being organised in partnership with Barclays, a British multinational banking and finance services company. The competition has evolved from eight participating regions around the world in 2009 to 24 regions for the 2013 competition, demonstrating the success and global reach of the business challenge.
The CIMA GBC competition will run in three stages. Teams of four act as consultants and compete among teams within their country at the early stages. At the country level, the champion team is selected through a contest, where different teams are required to submit a report. Once the report is selected the teams have to prepare presentation and the best presenting team proceeds to the final contest.
The competition not only grooms future business leaders but also gives an opportunity to the participants to meet their peers around the world. In 2013, the final contest was held in South Africa and “Team InnoVision” from LCBS, Dhaka competed on the global stage. It was beyond the expectations of the team that they stood in front of 23 teams from different countries. They shared: “The whole experience gave us such an amazing exposure to the corporate world and taught us how to stand on our own; not to mention the amazing opportunities to socialise and create networks with people.”
This year the competition will take place in August in the city of Mumbai, India and 24 teams from different countries are expected to participate. To know more about the competition and register for GBC 2014, please visit www.cimaglobal.com/gbc
