18th International Mathematics Conference at IUB

The inaugural ceremony of 18th International Mathematics Conference took place on March 20 at Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB). Bangladesh Mathematical Society is organising the conference, while IUB is hosting the event. Professor A K Azad Chowdhury, Chairman of University Grants Commission, inaugurated the conference as chief guest, while Professor M Omar Rahman, Vice Chancellor of IUB, attended the programme as chief patron.
Rashed Chowdhury, Chairman of IUB Board of Trustees, and Nurul Alam, Trustee of A F Muzibur Rahman Foundation, were present as special guests at the programme. Professor M Anwar Hossain, President of Bangladesh Mathematical Society chaired the session.
In his speech, Professor Chowdhury congratulated and thanked the organisers for arranging such an important event. Professor M Anwar Hossain delivered the welcome speech.
A good number of foreign academics participated in the conference. At the end of the event, the guests distributed prizes among the winners of National Undergraduate Math Olympiad.

Daylong Workshop on Andragony Practicum in CIU

For the first time in Bangladesh, “Andragogy Practicum Club” of Chittagong Independent University (CIU) arranged a daylong workshop on “How to Conduct Andragogical Practium” on February 20 at CIU auditorium.
The workshop was conducted by internationally acclaimed trainer, visiting scholar of CIU and the Chief Coordinator of CIU Students Society, A. Qaiyum Chowdhury. The entire programme was monitored by the Club Coordinator and Faculty of CIU, Tarana Karim.
Club President Marzan Binte Akhter; Secretary, Sabrina Ahsan, and Treasurer Sidratul Muntaha assisted in the organisation of the workshop. In the 1st batch, 11 teams of 55 students took part in the workshop.  CIU Pro Vice Chancellor, Professor Dr. Irshad Kamal A. Khan inaugurated the workshop and distributed trophies and certificates among the participants.
Through the process of 'Andragogy' students can learn to become aware of the concepts, understand the underlying meaning of the concepts and develop skills to implement the concepts. The acquired creative skills and enhanced confidence levels will equip students to face practical challenges, necessary to become a highly skilled professional or entrepreneur in the long run.

Square presents Pharma Fest 2014 at North South University

North South University Pharma Club hosts an annual Pharma Fest where the local pharmaceutical companies come to get acquainted with the students who will potentially go on to work for them. Pharma Fest 2014 was held in the plaza area of North South University's campus in Bashundhara, Dhaka.
The event was announced a few days prior to the festival with a flash mob by the NSU Pharmacy Club members in the university premises. The festival itself was colorful, with banners and posters of different pharmaceutical companies and the like. The event was inaugurated by Prof. Dr. Amin Sarkar, Vice Chancellor, North South University at 11:00 AM, who then visited all the stalls alongside Prof. Dr. ANM Meshquat Uddin, Pro Vice Chancellor, North South University. The ongoing exhibitions included Pharma and Herbal Exhibitions, and a Poster Exhibition on Drug Discovery and Drug Delivery.
Pharma Olympiad also took place, where pharmacy students from North South University as well as other renowned universities participated. After a rigorous session testing the pharmaceutical knowledge of the students and hosted by Dr. Hasan Mahmud Reza, students of North South University Priota Islam and Ishrat Aklima Muna emerged victorious.
The Chief Guest of the event, Dr. Ragib Ali, Chairman of Board of Trustees, North South University, with the Honorable Vice Chancellor and Pro Vice Chancellor as Special Guests, was welcomed by Prof. Dr. Sirajul Islam Khan, Dean, School of Health and Life Sciences and the Chairman, Department of Pharmaceutical Science, NSU. The honorable guests appreciated the initiative taken by NSU Pharmacy Club.
Afterwards, a cultural night was arranged. It started with a Pharma Walk, a fashion show that showcased different diseases, the effects of their preventive drugs, and the attainment of a medical utopia. Music, dance and drama soon were to follow, with a concluding performance by Bappa Mazumder and his band Dalchut Pharma Fest 2014.
NSU Pharmacy Club's Faculty Advisor is Dr. Asim Kumar Bepari. Muhit Newaz, President of the club, expressed, “Square presents Pharma Fest 2014 was an extraordinary platform for all those related with healthcare sector to come under one roof. It was a grand success and we are glad to have played host to all the pharmaceutical giants.” Other executive members of the club include Sadman Sakib, Bodiul Alam and Atikur Rahman.
Pharma Fest 2014 was presented by Square Pharmaceutical Ltd, and powered by GSK and General Pharmaceutical Ltd. eDoctorRadio, The Independent, Prothom Alo Jobs, Independent TV, New Zealand Natural and Nescafe were other partners.

BRACU English Campaign Launch: The CSO-Daily Star Initiative

BRAC University (BRACU) has taken an initiative to launch an English Campaign aimed at empowering students to compete globally by excelling in English. As a part of this initiative, BRAC University Career Services Office (CSO) in collaboration with The Daily Star, held a seminar, titled “The Daily Star: A Top Quality Career Choice” on March 19. The seminar was intended to explore the career prospects available at The Daily Star for BRACU students.
The event was moderated by Joint Registrar and Director of CSO, Khan A. N. Murshid. Syed Shanoor Wahid, Special Supplements Editor and Shahriar Shahid, Manager Business Development of The Daily Star were present as speakers.
Opening the event, Khan A. N. Murshid talked about the need for English at BRACU and across the board in the country. Syed Shanoor Wahid said “The Daily Star provides opportunities to the young generation to expose their creativity and talent through their writing for which they need outstanding command over English”.
