SK+F 3rd NDF BD-CMC DC National Medical College Debate Festival '14 held

National Debate Federation, Bangladesh (NDF BD), the largest debate organisation in the country, arranged 3rd NDF BD-CMC DC National Medical College Debate Festival '14 at Chittagong Medical College on March 28 and 29. The debate festival was jointly arranged by NDF BD, Chittagong Medical College Students Union (CMC SU) and Chittagong Medical College Debating Club (CMC DC). The event was sponsored by Eskayef Bangladesh Ltd, while the media partners were Ekattor TV, Radio Foorti, The Daily Star, The Daily Ittefaq and BanglaNews 24.com.
The event kicked off on March 28. Dr. Mujibul Haque Khan, President, Bangladesh Medical Association, Chittagong was present at the inauguration ceremony as chief guest. Syed Ishtiaque  Reza, Director of Ekattor TV was present as guest of honour. Professor Selim Mohammad Jahangir, Principal of CMC; AKM Shoaib, Chairman of NDF; Shariful Anwar, Co-chairman of NDF; Salman Mahmud Siddique Rafsan, Vice President of CMC SU; Dr. Md. Murad Hossain, Manager, Medical Affairs of Eskayef Bangladesh Ltd, were also present at the event.
A total of 14 teams from public and private medical colleges participated in the debate competition. The final round was held between Dhaka Medical College and Chittagong Medical College Team 2. Dhaka Medical College team became the champion.
At the closing ceremony, CMC Cultural Club presented a grand cultural night with the participation of the contestants. The event ended with the distribution of certificates among the participants.

Daffodil University signs MoU with Russian Centre of Science and Culture

Russian Centre of Science and Culture (RCSC) and Daffodil International University (DIU) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on March 27 to offer DIU students the programmes of Russian language study, exchange programmes for visiting summer schools and camps and opportunities for higher education in Russia. Alexander G. Chesnokov, Deputy Head of Russian Federal Agency for Cooperation with Foreign Countries, was present as chief guest. Alexander P. Demin, First Secretary and Head of Cultural Department, Embassy of the Russian Federation in Bangladesh and Professor Dr. M. Lutfar Rahman, Vice-Chancellor of DIU, signed the MoU on behalf of their respective organisations.
Under this agreement, RCSC will arrange different programmes like photo exhibitions, film shows, seminars and cultural programmes at DIU on Russian culture, heritage and language. RCSC will give access to DIU students to RCSC library so that they can learn about and discover Russian history, literature, culture and language from available books and films.

Seminar at EWU Agro Industrialization Club

Agro Industrialization Club (AIC) of East West University (EWU) organised a seminar titled “Contemporary States and Opportunities to Develop Agro Based Industry” on April 1 at EWU campus. Professor Ahmed Shafee, Vice Chancellor of EWU, was present as the chief guest, while A.S.M. Mainuddin Monem, Deputy Managing Director of Abdul Monem Limited, was present as special guest at the event. The objective of the event was to give the students a clear view of agro-based industry from the professionals' perspective and also to create a relationship between AIC and the agro industry.
Tanvir Hasan, Brand Manager, Marketing of PRAN-RFL Group, appreciated the initiative of AIC and shared his professional experience with the students. Professor Ahmed Shafee said that AIC is one of the most active clubs in EWU. He highlighted the current scenario of agro-based industry in Bangladesh and the future challenges which we have to face to industrialise the agro sector.

Science Fair at Australian International School

Australian International School (AUSIS) organised a science fair on April 3 at the school premises to inspire its students. Michael Bowmer, Principal of AUSIS, was present at the event as chief guest, while Iqbal Rahman, Advisor of AUSIS, attended the programme as special guest. Among others, Brigadier General (Retd) Md. Shariful Alam, administrator of AUSIS; and coordinating teachers, Angela Bowmer and Paul Hammond, were present at the fair. Out of 26 projects, two projects -- “Volcanic Eruption” and “Wind Turbine Generator of Alternative Energy Resource” -- won the first and the second prizes respectively. Certificates were awarded to the participants of the science fair. Students of AUSIS, teachers and guardians made the science fair a grand success. Coordinator of the science fair, Shabnam Hossain, concluded the event with the vote of thanks.
