Workshop on Creative Question at Eastern University

Eastern University organised a workshop on Creative Question Setting on November 29, 2013 at EU campus as a part of their Corporate Social Responsibility. The workshop was designed especially for college teachers to assist them in setting creative questions in examinations. Dr. M Khademul Islam, Training Specialist, NAEM, Ministry of Education, was present at the workshop as a resource person. Chief guest at the workshop, Professor Taslima Begum, Chairman, Board of Intermediate & Secondary Education, Dhaka, said that good teachers are needed to ensure the quality of education, and good training is essential to ensure the standard of teachers.
Rezakul Haider, Chairman, BOT of EU, was present as special guest at the workshop. Among others, Vice Chairman of EU Foundation, Mohammad Ali Azzam, and EU Registrar, Brigadier General (Retd.) Shafaat Ahmad also attended the programme. Professor Dr. Abdur Rab, Vice Chancellor of the university, chaired the session.

Seminar at Green University 

Green University Social Bonding Club (GUSBC) of the Department of Sociology & Anthropology organised a seminar, titled “Rubella Virus and Congenital Birth Defects in Bangladesh: Socio-cultural and Medical Lenses” on November 23, 2013. The objective of the seminar was to make students of GUB aware of and disseminate the knowledge regarding Rubella virus and congenital birth defects in Bangladesh. Abul Kalam Azad inaugurated the seminar and presented the keynote paper. Dr. Rezaul Karim, Associate Professor at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, BSMMU, and Md. Saiful Islam, Assistant Scientist, CCD, ICDDR,B also discussed at the seminar. The seminar closed with a speech by Professor Dr. Golam Samdani Fakir, Vice Chancellor of GUB.

ACM International Collegiate Programming Contest-2013 ends at NSU 

The final round of ACM International Collegiate Programming Contest-2013 (ICPC) and prize giving ceremony took place at North South University (NSU) on December 6, 2013. The contest, sponsored by IBM (International Business Machines Corporation, US), began at NSU on November 29, 2013. The contest provided a platform for IT students to interact with their counterparts from around the world and demonstrate their programming, problem-solving and teamwork skills.
The main competition of ICPC-2013 began on December 6th morning at NSU campus with 110 teams from 58 public and private universities. They were given 11 problems to solve within a fixed time frame. The award giving ceremony took place in the evening. Ragib Ali, Chairman, Board of Trustees, NSU Trust was present as chief guest at the event, while Dr. Abul L. Haque, Director of ACM-ICPC Dhaka Site 2013, chaired the ceremony. Among others, Professor Dr. Miftahur Rahman, Dean of SEAS, NSU; Sazzad Rafique, Director of Software Engineering, Therap Services, LLC; Shahazad Khan, CEO of Eyeball Networks, were present at the ceremony.
Team Attoprottoyee of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) and Team Max +7 from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) became champion and runner-up respectively.

Seminar at Daffodil University

United Nations Information Centre (UNIC), Dhaka and Daffodil International University (DIU) jointly arranged a seminar to mark “International Volunteer Day 2013” on December 6, 2013 at DIU auditorium. Syed Abul Maksud, writer, columnist and social activist, was present as chief guest, while Takayoshi Suzuki, Visiting Professor, Department of Natural Science, FSIT was present at the seminar as special guest. Dr. Aminul Islam, Founder Vice Chancellor and Emeritus Professor of DIU, presided over the seminar and Kazi Ali Reza, Officer-in-Charge, UNIC, Dhaka presented the keynote paper. Syed Mizanur Rahman Raju, Director (Student Affairs) of DIU, Parvez Kamal Kyisan of DIU Voluntary Service Club also addressed the seminar. In addition to the seminar, DIU Voluntary Service Club was officially launched at the event.
