IUB hosts Microsoft Imagine Cup 2014
The grand finale and award presentation of Imagine Cup Bangladesh-2014 took place on April 26 at Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) campus. This year IUB was the official host for Microsoft Imagine Cup Bangladesh.
State Minister for ICT Division of Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology, Junaid Ahmed Palak, attended the programme as chief guest while Said Zahedani, General Manager of Microsoft Asia Pacific, was present as special guest. They gave away awards among the winners of the competition.
In the final competition, nine teams presented country's top projects on games, innovation and world citizenship. In the 'Games' category, team Karigor of Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology (AUST) became the champion, while team Ekattor of American International University Bangladesh (AIUB) won the championship in 'Innovation'; team Imaginearium of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) became the champion in 'World Citizenship' category.

Seminar on “A new approach to joint replacements” at NSU
The Department of Public Health of North South University (NSU) in association with Bumrungrad International Hospital, Thailand arranged a seminar on “A new approach to joint replacements” at NSU seminar hall on April 24. The motto of the seminar was “less pain, faster recovery, return to active life quickly.”
Professor A.N.M. Meshquat Uddin, Pro Vice Chancellor of NSU, attended the programme as chief guest, while Professor G.U. Ahsan, Chairman of Public Health Department, chaired the seminar. Dr. Siripong Ratanachai, Director, Joint Replacement Centre, Bumrungrad International Hospital presented the keynote paper.
Among others, Winston Wuttisitti, Representative, Bumrungrad International Hospital; Dr. Hasan Mahmud Reza, Associate Professor, Department of Pharmacy, NSU and N. M. M. Kamalur Rahman Bhuiyan, Country Manager, Bumrungrad International Referral Office- Bangladesh also delivered speeches.
Social Entrepreneurship and Innovation Day at AUW
Asian University for Women (AUW) recently organised a session on Social Entrepreneurship and Innovation at their campus in Chittagong. The Observatory on Social Entrepreneurship and Innovation in Asia and Professor Christian Girard hosted the university's 2nd Social Entrepreneurship and Innovation Day on April 12. The event was open to the AUW community to promote an understanding and dialogue about social enterprises in Bangladesh. It was also an opportunity to link theory and practice for the students of the course on Social Entrepreneurship.
A.H. Md. Maqsood Sinha, Co-founder and Executive Director of Waste Concern; Pavel Hoq, Chief Operating Officer of Grameen Intel Social Business Ltd; Sabhanaz Rashid Diya, Founder and Advisory of One Degree Initiative Foundation, shared their own experiences with social enterprises. They also shared their expertise with students through an open panel discussion designed to give advice on how to start, manage, and develop a social enterprise.
Finally, the day culminated with the speakers working individually with small groups of students to improve their social enterprise project and business plans.
