BUGMUN 2014 in the pipeline
BRAC University would be playing host to 400 delegates from all over the world from 17th to 21st January for its international conference, BRAC University Global Model United Nations (BUGMUN) 2014, at BRAC-CDM and Residential Campus with the theme “Post 2015: Envisioning a Better Future for the World”. The theme focuses on a vast range of developmental activities including combating poverty, ensuring education and healthcare for all, environmental protection, immunity from life-threatening diseases, and many more. Reputed foreign and national dais members (comprised of Chairs, Co-Chairs and Directors) will be moderating the committee sessions of this conference.
MUN is a simulation of United Nations Conference where delegates develop their communication, negotiation and diplomatic skills. It is a unique experience where participants get to interact with different people, not only from their own country but with people from all over the world.
International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) is an association at BRAC University that focuses on MUN along with bringing forth other platforms that help individuals expand their communication and other relative skills. IABC | BRAC University has had its fair share of experience by participating in international and national MUNs, which include Nanyang Technological University Model United Nations (NTU MUN) in 2010, Harvard World MUN in 2011, Bangladesh Model United Nations (BANMUN) in 2011, Bangladesh International Model United Nations (BIMUN) in 2012, International Model United Nations (IIMUN) in 2012 and Dhaka University Model United Nations (DUNMUN) in 2012 and 2013. The delegates of IABC | BRAC University, with their talent, dedication and persistence have also managed to win awards such as Best Delegate, Best Position Paper and Special Mention in these conferences.
IABC | BRAC University have organised and attended many successful events: 'The iCon: A Reflection on the life and work of Steve Jobs', 'Japanese Corporations', National Model United Nations Workshop, Oikos Winter School, Oikos Future Lab, Oxford Business Case Competition, Master Classes and Seminars. Ratul Dev, founder and president, created the IABC Student Chapter in Bangladesh. He will be the Secretary General of BUGMUN 2014. The advisors for this association are Manjur Karim (Piash) and Sharmin Shabnam Rahman. With the help of the Assistant Director of BRAC University Student Affairs Office, Amir Ebn Sharif, IABC | BRAC University will keep the participants entertained with events. BUGMUN 2014 will involve a Gala Night with a Masquerade Ball theme where guests will be wearing costumes and masks, Bangladesh Day with a real taste of Bangladeshi culture, Global Night with live musicians and BBQ Night in an open field. More importantly, venues for this global event are as tempting as the event itself where participants would be able to get a glimpse of what BRAC University has to offer to students as a part of their experience outside the academic field.
In order to apply as a delegate for participating in BUGMUN 2014, interested individuals would have to fill up a delegate application form at the website: bracumun.org. Participation criterion starts from college students to people who are already working as long as they are below 30 years of age. A good command over English language would be preferable, as English will be the official language of the conference. The last date for applying as a delegate is 31st December, 2013. With little time to send in the applications, it would be appropriate to get started right away to make BUGMUN 2014 truly an exceptional experience to cherish.
