Seminar at Southeast University

Department of Economics, South East University (SEU) organised a seminar, titled “Causes and Remedies of the Drop Out of students in Private Universities” on January 8, 2014 at the SEU conference room. Professor Dr. Anwar Hossain, Vice Chancellor of SEU, and Professor Dr. Md. Humayun Kabir Chowdhury, Pro Vice Chancellor of SEU, were present at the seminar.
Among others, Professor Dr. Md. Abdul Hakim, Dean (acting), School of Arts and Social Sciences, presented the keynote paper at the seminar. Brigadier General (Retd.) Md. Anwarul Islam, Registrar; Professor Dr. Golam Ahmed Faruqui, Dean, School of Business Studies; Professor Syed Fakhrul Hassan, Dean (acting), School of Sciences & Engineering; Professor Meer Mobashsher Ali, Proctor of the university, were present at the event.

Weeklong training workshop at Daffodil University

A weeklong training workshop on “Electronic Journalism” for the students of one-year postgraduate diploma on journalism of Press Institute of Bangladesh (PIB) began at Daffodil International University (DIU) on January 11, 2014. Professor Dr. M. Lutfar Rahman, Vice Chancellor of Daffodil International University, was present at the inaugural ceremony as chief guest. Md. Shah Alamgir, Director General of PIB, presided over the programme. Professor Dr. M. Golam Rahman, Dean, Faculty of Humanities and Social Science, and Professor Dr. A.K.M. Fazlul Hoque, Registrar of the university, were present as special guests. Among others, Sheikh Md. Abdur Razzak, Instructor of JMC Media Lab, and Shahela Akter, Coordinator of PIB, were present at the programme. A total of 50 students attended the workshop.
Addressing the ceremony as chief guest, Professor Dr. M. Lutfar Rahman said, “In this age of free information flow, DIU ensures all sorts of infrastructural equipment and technological support to groom skilled journalists for electronic media.” Professor Dr. M. Golam Rahman said, “For learning and gaining experience in electronic journalism, DIU has set up a well-equipped media lab through which the participants of PIB will be able to prepare themselves for electronic media.”

Undergrad Thesis Presentation and Farewell Programme at ULAB

The importance of engaging with the world in a critical way and organising ideas in a creative manner was highlighted at the “Undergraduate Thesis Presentation and Farewell” programme held at the University of Liberal Arts, Bangladesh on January 3, 2013. Twenty-five students of the Department of English and Humanities, who will graduate this year, submitted their supervised research reports at the programme. The outgoing students both presented and defended their thesis as part of their academic course requirement. It was for the first time, DEH students of ULAB followed standardised research methods in language and literature. The research topics ranged from classical epics to English language teaching at primary schools, demonstrated the research acumen of ULAB students, and their desire to explore new ideas. Pro Vice Chancellor of ULAB, Professor Jahirul Haque; Chair of DEH, Professor Kaiser Haq; Advisor to DEH, Professor Shamsad Mortuza; Professor Golam Sarwar Chowdhury and other faculty members spoke at the programme. Speakers highlighted research in liberal arts as the mainstay of ULAB's mission and urged the students to keep the spirit of fraternity and humanity alive in their chosen careers. The programme ended with a short farewell ceremony arranged for the outgoing students.
