Orientation at Southeast University

Southeast Universituy organised an orientation programme for the newly enrolled students of Spring-2014 of the School of Arts & Social Sciences at its campus on January 25, 2014. Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed, Former Governor of Bangladesh Bank, was the chief guest at the programme. Professor Dr. Anwar Hossain, Vice Chancellor of Southeast University, presided over the ceremony. Professor Dr. Md. Humayun Kabir Chowdhury, Pro Vice Chancellor (Designate), was present as special guest. Brigadier General (Retd.) Md. Anwarul Islam, Registrar of the university, gave a brief introduction to the newcomers about the university in his welcome speech. Professor Dr. M. Abdul Hakim, Dean (acting), School of Arts & Social Sciences, delivered his speech with the vote of thanks. Many faculty members and officials of the university were also present at the ceremony along with students.

ULAB signs MoU with BBC Media Action

The University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) and BBC Media Action, Bangladesh signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on January 28, 2014 at its campus. ULAB Vice Chancellor, Professor Imran Rahman, and Richard Lace, Head of Project, English in Action, signed the agreement on behalf of their respective organisations. BBC Media Action is working to establish a network of English Language Clubs across Bangladesh by the end of March 2014. These clubs will help people learn English through self-directed learning materials produced by BBC Media Action. As a partner, ULAB will host an English Club for its students, and take part in the specialised language learning activities developed by BBC Media Action. ULAB will also support BBC Media Action's Research and Learning team in conducting studies and other related activities.
Professor Brian Shoesmith, Senior Adviser, ULAB Board of Trustees; Dr. H.M. Jahirul Haque, ULAB Pro Vice Chancellor; Professor Golam Sarwar Chowdhury, Professor of English at ULAB, and members of BBC Media Action were also present at the signing ceremony.

SAY Together: working for the destitute

“Say together for people,
Say together for peace,
Say together for planet.”

With this slogan, SAY Together, a social welfare organisation, was founded by a group of enthusiastic youths in mid-2013. SAY Together is a non-political, non-profit social welfare organisation that collaborates with different youth activist organisations to engage in various social services.
Recently, the organisation distributed 500 winter clothes among the destitute at Dohar, an upazilla of Dhaka. In a significant step to educate underprivileged children, this year, SAY Together is planning to start a free school for drifting children near Kamalapur Railway Station. SAY Together will provide them with necessary books and stationary for free. The group aims to take this initiative to the national level. Other projects include planting at least 5000 saplings each year. They are also continuing their winter campaign, distributing over 1000 blankets and other winter clothing to needy people. The organisation plans on running different social awareness programmes like raising awareness among school students about the harmful effects of drugs. They also plan on arranging seminars, rallies and symposiums to create awareness on the importance of education for girls, eve-teasing, social inequity etc.
SAY Together was founded by Asadul Islam Shuvo (DU), Zohirul Islam Zohir (AIUB), Sajib Hossain (EWU), Moyazzem Hossain (EWU), Zakir Hossain (NU), Liakot Hossain (BOU) and Sajib Hossain Kallis (NU). Senior Advisor of SAY Together is Eng. M.A. Khan Sohel (Head of technology/operation, GP). Besides the youths, journalists, economists, doctors, teachers and social activists have joined SAY Together.

Seminar on achieving PhD and DBA at Insight School of Learning

Insight School of Learning and SMC University (SMCU), Switzerland organised a seminar on February 1, 2013. Dr. Md. Farashuddin, Chairman, East West University was present as chief guest at the seminar, while Dr. S.M.A. Faiz, former Vice Chancellor of University of Dhaka, attended the seminar as special guest. The Seminar was chaired by Professor Dr. Syed Ferhat Anwar, IBA, University of Dhaka. Among others, Dr. A.K. Enamul Haque, Professor of Economics, United International University; Dr Samir Asaf, Bangladesh Ambassador, SMC University; and Dr. M.R. Kabir, Dean, School of Engineering, University of Asia Pacific were present at the seminar.
In his speech, Dr. Farashuddin said that this degree can be completed while remaining on the job. He thanked Insight School for this venture. Dr. S.M.A. Faiz said this degree is accredited in 120 countries across the world. Speakers also praised Insight's steps to provide PhD and DBA degrees at an affordable cost in Bangladesh.

Sunnydale School holds  Annual Sports-2014

Vibrancy and festivity marked the Annual Sports-2014 organised by Sunnydale School on January 30, 2014. The event took place at Government Physical Education College ground in the capital's Mohammadpur area. The entire ground wore a splendid look when around 1,500 students in white and navy-blue took to the field to participate in 34 events, including sprints, relay race, balance race, skipping rope and long jump. While some students were battling it out in the competitions, some were busy playing fun games like basketball, cricket, badminton and football. Morning and afternoon snacks and sumptuous lunch were served as refreshments during the event, coordinated by Md Mizanul Islam, Director, Athletics of Sunnydale.
Principal of the school, Tazeen Ahmed, accompanied by Vice Principal, Yasmeen Habib, and other senior faculty members, inaugurated the annual event by releasing colourful balloons in the air. Tazeen Ahmed announced the end of the annual event of the school, which boasts of upholding academic excellence ever since its inception, through vote of thanks.
