Japanese investors should invest in various potential sectors in Bangladesh, especially in Chattogram, which has become a trade and investment growth engine of the country because of the implementation of mega infrastructure projects and capacity enhancement of the sea port, analysts said today.

They spoke at a webinar jointly organised by Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI), Japan External Trade Organisation (JETRO) and Dhaka and Japan Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry (JBCCI).

The event was organised as part of efforts to attract Japanese investment to Bangladesh particularly in Chattogram.

Around 160 people from over 100 Japanese companies took part in the webinar held with the help of Zoom platform.

CCCI President Mahbubul Alam said Japan and its private sector could play a key role by bringing in their technology and experience of large-scale industrialisation and through by making investment in Chattogram by utilising ongoing mega infrastructural projects in the region.

Bangladesh has a young population that can be transformed into human asset with appropriate training while Japan has the capital and investment to leverage this asset, he said.

Mentioning that Bangladesh has a growing middle-class population, the chamber president said Japan has the technology required to serve this market.

CCCI, JETRO and JBCCI has established CCCI-Japan Desk in December last year to strengthen business-to-business ties between the two counties, he mentioned.

JETRO Country Representative in Dhaka Yuji Ando in his brief presentation on CCCI-Japan Desk narrated about the excellent economic situation in Bangladesh and importance and future growth possibility of Chattogram into global industrial hub.

The CCCI-Japan Desk run by its partners Legal Counsel, New Vision Solutions Ltd. and Bangladesh Center of Excellence along with JETRO in Dhaka would facilitate business ties between the private sectors of the two countries through providing legal, business and market information, linkage and policy advocacy service.
