Humaira Azam takes charge of Trust Bank as CEO and managing director
Humaira Azam today took charge of Trust Bank as its first female managing director and CEO.
The appointment also made her the first female CEO for any commercial bank—be it private or state-owned—in the 50 years history of Bangladesh.
On March 29, Trust Bank took the decision, which was subject prior approval from the central bank.
The approval from the banking watchdog came to Humaira on April 11.
Humaira started her banking career as a management trainee officer in ANZ Grindlays Bank in 1990.
He later contributed to different local and foreign banks and non-bank financial institutions.
Trust Bank recruited her as an additional managing director in 2018 and she has been serving the bank sponsored by the Army Welfare Trust as an acting managing director before the new appointment.
She also served Bank Asia as deputy managing director and IPDC Finance Ltd as managing director.
The veteran banker also worked for some other leading banks, including HSBC and Standard Chartered.
Some female persons earlier got the responsibility to play their role as acting managing director, but Humaira is going to be the first full-fledged chief executive officer.
The government earlier appointed Mahtab Jabin as managing director of Probashi Kallyan Bank, who was the first female CEO in a specialised state-run bank.
Humaira obtained honours and master's degrees in international relations from Dhaka University.
