PM seeks OIC support to resolve Rohingya crisis

Tarique Rahman also calls for deeper relations between Bangladesh and the OIC member countries

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman today sought support from Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) member states for resolving the Rohingya crisis.

He made the call during a courtesy meeting with ambassadors and high commissioners of OIC member states at his office in Secretariat's Cabinet Division, said PM’s Deputy Press Secretary Zahidul Islam.

The envoys of the OIC member states expressed interest in further strengthening relations with Bangladesh in different sectors, including investment, trade, education, health, textiles and the pharmaceutical industry, the deputy press secretary said.

The prime minister welcomed the remarks made by the representatives of the OIC member states. On behalf of the government and the people of Bangladesh, he thanked them for their support, the deputy press secretary said.

According to the PM’s press wing, the envoys congratulated Tarique Rahman on assuming office as prime minister.

At the meeting, Tarique recalled Bangladesh’s brotherly relations with OIC member states during the time of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman.

He expressed hope that the relations would be further strengthened in the future.

He also emphasised increasing people-to-people contact alongside state-to-state relations among the countries.

Ambassadors and high commissioners of Saudi Arabia, Türkiye, Palestine, Algeria, Brunei, Egypt, Indonesia, Kuwait, Malaysia, the Maldives, Morocco, Oman, Pakistan, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates were present at the meeting.

The heads of mission of Iran, Iraq and Libya also took part.
