Savar traders protest closure of shops, markets

Star Digital Report

Small business owners and their employees blocked Dhaka-Aricha highway in Savar this morning protesting the government-imposed restrictions on opening shops and markets during the ongoing "lockdown".

They blocked the road near Savar Bazar Bus Stand area around 11am for one and half hour, demanding government let them keep business establishments open on limited scale, reports our Savar correspondent quoting Saiful Islam, inspector (investigation) of Savar Model Police Station.

"We have not been able to get over from the losses we endured last year during pandemic," the agitators said adding that if they have to keep shops closed this year as well, they will face irreversible losses.

They also threatened to demonstrate tomorrow if their demands are not met.
