World Bank keen on continuing constructive partnership with Bangladesh

Says high-level delegation of the multilateral lender

The World Bank (WB) expressed a keen interest in continuing a close and constructive partnership with Bangladesh, said a high-level delegation from the lender during a courtesy call on Bangladesh Bank (BB) Governor Md Mostaqur Rahman yesterday.

The meeting at the BB headquarters in Dhaka focused on the country’s overall economic outlook and development prospects. 

Both sides held cordial discussions on ongoing projects and explored opportunities for strengthening future cooperation, according to a press release.

Rahman expressed a strong commitment to supporting the successful implementation of current initiatives.

He invited the multilateral lender to expand its engagement in supporting Bangladesh’s financial sector development and overall economic growth.

The WB delegation included Regional Vice President John Zutt, Division Director for Bangladesh and Bhutan Jean Pesme, and IFC Director Imad Najib Ayed Fakhoury. 

Operations for Bangladesh and Bhutan Manager Gayle H Martin, IFC Manager Wilfried Tamegnon, and Senior External Affairs Officer Mehrin A Mahbub, were also present from the lender's side.

From BB, deputy governors Md Habibur Rahman and Md Kabir Ahmed, along with other senior officials, attended the meeting.
