15 injured over land dispute in Jhenidah
Fifteen people including five cops were injured as two groups of villagers clashed at Charaushia village in Shailakupa poura area of the district yesterday.
Locals and police said there had been a dispute between village leader Tofazzel Biswas and Shaheb Ali over ownership of a land. Both of them are AL activists.
On Friday morning, supporters led by Ali, went to the disputed land for felling trees. On information, police arrested four labourers. Ali's supporters then hurled brickbats and stones at the cops who fired seven rounds to disperse the attackers when five cops were hurt and four villagers suffered bullet injuries. Six other villagers were also hurt from the thrown brickbats and stones.
Filing of a case is underway, said officer-in-charge of Shailakupa police station, Tozammel Haq.
