Academic activities resume at BRUR

After nearly four months, academic and administrative activities of Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur resumed yesterday.

A section of teachers, students and staff under the banner of "Samannita Odhikar Bastobayan Parishad" put the administrative building under lock and key since December 3 and the academic buildings since February 2 demanding overdue promotions and related benefits of the teachers and staff and holding of the postponed admission test immediately.

The university authorities broke the locks of the buildings in the presence of Executive Magistrate Md Mizanur Rahman and Additional Superintendent of Police in Rangpur Ashok Kumar Pal.

Dr RM Hafizur Rahman Selim, convener of the Parishad and president of BRUR Teachers' Association, told The Daily Star that they were continuing their movement.

The University Grants Commission is responsible for providing such promotions, said VC AKM Nurun Nabi, adding that the university authorities would announce a fresh date of the admission test very soon.
