Supporting the ongoing movements of the public university teachers and private university students, BNP yesterday asked the government to accept all of their demands; otherwise, what it said, there will be a crisis in the education sector.

"The meritorious students of the country have lost their interest in teaching profession as salaries of our teachers are not respectable like other neighbouring countries," said BNP spokesperson Asaduzzaman Ripon.

Ripon was addressing a press conference at the party's Nayapaltan office in Dhaka where he also demanded withdrawal of the recently imposed VAT on private universities.

BNP also condemned the attack by the law enforcers on the East West University students during their movement.

Referring to the eighth national payscale, he said many demanded "restoration of the time scale and selection grade" to it. He hoped that the government will consider the demands.
