Child stabbed dead in Cumilla

A 10-year-old was stabbed to death in Satora area of Cumilla Sadar upazila on Saturday night.

The deceased is Mehedi Hasan, son of Alamgir Hossain of the area and a third-grader at North South Child Academy.

Abdul Hannan, the deceased’s uncle, said, “Mehedi used to go to his private tutor at a neighbouring house, but he did not return after studying last night [Saturday]. When we went to the tutor’s house, we heard that she had escorted Mehedi to the gate of his home.”

After searching for a while, family members found Mehedi in a ditch by his house around 10:30pm the same night. They took him to Cumilla Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

There were several sharp weapon injuries on his throat and head.

Family members suspect previous enmity might be the reason behind the killing.

Anwarul Haque, officer-in-charge of Cumilla Kotwali Model Police Station, said they are investigating the matter, and they detained a suspect for preliminary interrogation.
