CPA demolishes 2 illegal makeshift jetties, fines 2 ships

A mobile court of Chittagong Port Authority (CPA) demolished two illegal makeshift jetties and fined two ships for different irregularities in Chittagong city yesterday.

During a drive, led by Mohammad Abul Hasem, executive magistrate of CPA; the court demolished the illegal jetties in Char Patharghata area under Karnaphuli Police Station.

Bricks and coals, worth around Tk 6 lakh, were also seized from the jetties, said the megistrate.

Meanwhile, two ships -- MV Central and MV Saifur Rahman -- were also fined Tk 30,000 each in Shah Amanat Bridge area near the Karnaphuli River for different irregularities including overloading, keeping date-expired fire extinguishers and not having safety gears, he added.
