CU restricts access to campus waterfall

The Chittagong University authorities imposed a ban on visiting a waterfall on the campus after two students died there on October 12.

The authorities imposed the ban the day after the accident, said CU Registrar (Acting) Prof Kamrul Huda, adding that the university authorities also formed a committee to investigate whether the area could be made safe and turned into a tourism spot.

A guard has already been posted in front of the Arts and Humanities Faculty, behind which is the road to the waterfall, to prevent students from going there, he said.

Visiting the spot recently, The Daily Star found the authorities has also put up a sign restricting access to the area.

On October 12, Naimul Hasan Pabel and Asaduzzaman Rifat, two first years students, drowned in the waterfall.
