‘Debris of Desire’ selected at SIFF

"Debris of Desire", a film produced by Bangladeshi filmmaker Josim Ahmed, has made the official selection of the Shanghai International Film Festival (SIFF).

Directed by Indranil Roychowdhury, the Bangladesh-India joint production is part of the Asian New Talent Award at the prestigious film festival, that is set to begin on July 25.  

The  film, carrying the Bangla title "Mayar Jonjal", stars Aupee Karim and popular Indian actor Ritwick Chakraborty, and follows Satya and Chandu, two struggling members of the underclass, who turn to a life of crime.

"SIFF is not only a renowned film festival around the world, but is also the biggest film market in Asia. It is indeed a privilege to have my work selected in the festival," Josim Ahmed told this newspaper.

The film will be showcased in the Shanghai Film Art Center, Tianshan Cinema-Hongqiao Art Center and OSGH Cinema on July 25, July 29 and August 1 respectively. The festival, one of the first major film events to be held physically  since the Covid-19 outbreak, will run until August 2.
