Doctor held for raping apprentice lawyer in Rajshahi
A doctor of Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH) had been raping a female apprentice-lawyer for 17 months under threats of releasing her private photographs and videos, police said quoting the victim.
A police team detained Md Shakhawat Hossain Rana (40), an ophthalmologist of RMCH, when he went to her rented room in the city's Bheripara area and attempted to rape her again around 3:00pm today, said police.
The doctor was shown arrested in the case after the 27-year-old woman filed it against him with Rajpara Police Station this evening, Shahadat Hossain Khan, officer-in-charge (OC) of the police station, said.
The woman met Rana in March 2019 when she had been sub-letting a room with one of her friends in the area, the OC said quoting the victim.
Rana developed an affair with her. Hailing from Naogaon, Rana lives at Tikapara area in the city, reports our Rajshahi correspondent.
He continued raping her in her room, promising her marriage and falsely telling her that he was unmarried, the OC said quoting her statement.
He captured private photographs and videos of her at the start of their relationship, and threatened to release them and used the leverage to rape her repeatedly.
Rana was avoiding talks of marriage with her and recently, she discovered that Rana was married.
This afternoon, when he went to her room and attempted to force her again, her sub-let friend heard her shouting for help and called 999, the police said.
"We will investigate the allegations," said Golam Ruhul Kuddus, additional deputy commissioner of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police (RMP).
