DPDC penalises electricity thieves
Dhaka Power Distribution Company Ltd (DPDC) during a special taskforce drive in different parts of the capital detected 3.75 lakh units of power pilferage and realised Tk 62.46 lakh in fine yesterday, said a press release.
The areas where the gross anomalies were detected included Kamrangirchar, Jurain, Bashabo, Bongshal, Swamibagh, Banglabazar and Fatullah in Narayanganj.
The fine was realised from 11 individuals and establishments.
Over the past week, the DPDC realised Tk 3.4 crore in fines and in dues from power payment defaulters including Dhaka Wasa, Dhaka South City Corporation and Dhaka University during various such drives.
During the drives, 26 electricity connections were severed and three cases were filed.
DPDC Secretary Mohammad Munir Chowdhury, who is leading the taskforce, said the ongoing drive would help prevent power pilferage, strengthen DPDC financially and stop the harassment of genuine customers.
